Interview With Cynthia Powell

What do you bring to market?

We sell 15 different flavors of dog treats, carob candy, and two different sizes of pupcakes.

Where is it produced?

Steilacoom, WA.

When is it produced?

Every other day.

Tell us about the supplies that you use. Are they local, organic, etc.?

Our products are all organic. We use goat cheese from the market.

How and/or why is your product unique?

Our products are all organic. Our pupcakes are unique -- no one else is doing cupcakes.

What got you into this industry?

We started as college students. The business came out of a fundriaser. We did research about dog treats and discovered that store-bought treats often have preservatives that lead to cancer.

Tell us about the process of creating your product.

We tested and tried recipes, and then devleoped our own. We use oat flour because a lot of dogs are allergic to wheat. The dog bones are soft baked, which senior dogs appreciate.

What else can people find your products?

We sell at the Poh Paw og Boutique in Steilacoom. We also take orders on our website:

http://www.dogtreatbakery.org

and by phone. We do deliveries.

What do you enjoy about this line of work?

I enjoy the process of making dog treats. Working with your hands is very relaxing.

What are the challenges of this line of work?

Finding all the organic ingredient. We are still looking for organic goat cheese.

Anything else you want people to know about your products?

We make 15 flavors of organic dog treats: buffalo, beef, turkey, chicken, lamb, peanut butter, bacon, sweet potato, pumpkin, mint, carob, cheese, doggie chocolates (carob), pupcakes, and birthday cakes. We use a natural preservative: a powdered form of vitamin E.
